Charitable Planning
Following is a brief overview of some of the types of irrevocable charitable trusts you can establish through Caldwell:
- Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts (CRAT). With this type of trust, you specify that either you, or someone you designate will receive a fixed amount of income each year throughout the term of the trust. When the term ends, the charity(ies) you specify will receive all remaining assets.
- Charitable Remainder Unitrusts (CRUT). This type of trust is similar to a CRAT, however you or your designee receive an amount each year equal to a specified percentage of the total assets. At the end of the trust's term, the charity(ies) receive all remaining assets.
- Private Foundations. You alone or with your family can establish an irrevocable trust for philanthropic purposes and distribute the assets you place in the trust through grants.
